NEW KPMF VINYLS WIDEN SCOPE FOR ALL-OVER VEHICLE WRAPPING
Increasing enthusiasm for "wrapping" cars, vans
and buses with self-adhesive vinyl has prompted Kay Premium
Marking Films to develop two new dedicated product systems
to extend the scope for all-over graphic decoration to a wider
variety of vehicle types.
Retaining the VWS brand name with which it pioneered the
wrapping concept eight years ago, KPMF is calling the two
products VWS 11 and VWS 111 and will unveil them at the Sign
UK 2005 exhibition in April on the stand (No C50) of its UK
distributor, KPMF Direct Ltd.
Unlike the original VWS film, which was designed primarily
as a paint replacement medium for German taxis and the means
to create different colour backgrounds for London black cab
advertising graphics, VWS 11 has been developed specifically
to optimise the quality of solvent digital printing in terms
of both colour image reproduction and durability.
A two-component product, it comprises a 50-micron matt white
cast printable vinyl and a
30-micron gloss clear cast overlaminating film. The matt finish
of the printable film ensures the perfect ink key and consistently
smooth surface that are required to produce high-resolution,
photo-realistic images - whilst the overlaminating film provides
protection against UV and scuffing and gives the finished
wrap a lustrous, deep-gloss appearance that enhances colour
vibrancy.
The 80-micron thickness of the combined VWS 11 components
significantly improves the conformability of the finished
product and extends the scope for effective wrapping to vehicles
which have deeply recessed body panels - such as the Mercedes
Sprinter van. For VWS 1, KPMF chose a 100-micron film thickness,
balancing the degree of conformability required to wrap the
flowing curves of taxi-cabs with the ease of handling needed
to minimise the cabs' time off the road.
KPMF's second addition to the VWS family is a gloss cast
vinyl, also of 80 microns, which is aimed at those who seek
a wrapping medium in custom colours matched to individual
specifications. VWS 111 can be supplied by KPMF in relatively
low volumes, so even the smallest fleet of vans or cars can
be colour-matched economically to any desired corporate identify.
Originally manufactured only in the statutory beige that
German taxis must adopt, VWS 1 is now available in a range
of 16 colours and can also be supplied customised to order.
All colours, and particularly the white and clear films provide
excellent screen and digital printing platforms.
The three VWS products are coated with a solvent acrylic
adhesive and supplied with a single-sided polyethylene-coated
liner that offers excellent machine fed and lay-flat characteristics.
To differentiate between the three products, the liners are
colour printed: black for VWS 1, red for VWS 11 and yellow
for VWS 111. They are manufactured in a width of 1520mm (60in)
to allow seam-free wrapping of even the largest van body panel.
